Profile: Anil Dumasia

An established expert at all aspects of visual communication, Anil Dumasia

has worked with some of the top names in his field, and has many years’ international experience.

While still in college, Anil was awarded a Royal Society of Arts bursary, which led to a job at the celebrated Studio Dumbar in Holland, where he worked on a project for Amsterdam’s famed Rijksmuseum art gallery. This project won the Design and Art Directors’ (D&AD) Gold Award.

Anil’s UK career got off to a strong start at The Design Room in Warwick, and before long he was discovered by the biggest global design consultancy of the time: Allied International Designers (now Addison Design), where he worked for the next four years in London and Singapore.

Keen to further his talents and skills, he then joined Sampson Tyrell (now The Brand Union) where his expertise was used on major accounts. These included the Shell Retail Visual Identity programme, which, when he moved to Rufus Leonard, moved with him. In 1995, he opened his own London consultancy, Dumasia Design, and gathered an impressive list of clients, some of whom are still with him today. Six years later, Anil made the move to New Zealand, joining Imagination (DDB Advertising) and contributing to a number of top brands, including Sky City and Meritec.

In 2003, Anil set up the New Zealand office of Dumasia Design, now rebranded as xybrands, and today works successfully for clients on both sides of the world.
